What Makes a Krampus Costume?
A Krampus costume is built from more than fur, horns and a frightening mask. The carved face, bells, straps, materials and movement all work together, and the result can look very different depending on the region, group and maker behind it.
In the Alpine region, those differences matter. A hand-carved mask made for a local group, a modern performance costume and a commercial replica may share the same basic features while having very different relationships to the tradition. The Mask Defines the Character
